WEEKEND TRAFFIC TOURNAMENT – PLAN AHEAD
US 60 – CLOSED between Loop 101 and the 202. LET’S BE CLEAR. This is the entire stretch of the US 60 through the east valley. Use the 202 loop if you need to go to Mesa, for whatever reason people go to Mesa.
Westbound Loop 101 (North Scottsdale) – CLOSED – Princess Drive to Tatum. Those of you driving from Scottsdale to the Cardinals game, TAKE THE SOUTHERN ROUTE. 101-202-I10-101…looks like code. There is one hitch to this route…see below…
I-10 to 101 interchange – CLOSED. Welcome to Avondale! Which is where you’ll wind up if approaching this closure. They have a Chik-fil-A now, you’ll be fine.
I-17 (south of downtown) – CLOSED – 7th Ave to 7th St. For lack of Kevlar paneling on the truck, we avoid this leg of the I-17 always.
CARDINALS FANS
If traveling from Scottsdale, Phoenix, or the East Valley, LEAVE EARLY. ADOT does not have a football schedule apparently. Or, perhaps they’re Vikings fans. Eastbound 101 is closed, forcing those travelers to traverse the valley like Ferdinand Magellan using either side streets or the 202/I-10 freeways. Meanwhile the ramp from the I-10 to the 101, near the stadium, is CLOSED. This will unleash furious drivers from the I-10 back up onto the streets of Avondale. Those people are armed.
Best bet is I-17 to Glendale Ave or Camelback Rd, sneak in from the east, which everyone else will think of too. Leave Early. Be Patient. Good luck.
